Gamification – the application of typical elements of game playing (e.g. point scoring, competition with others, rules of play) to other areas of activity, typically as an online marketing technique to encourage engagement with a product or service.
Grit – courage and resolve; strength of character.
Game Elements – common aspects of games such as badges, experience points, leaderboards, roles, story/narrative, curiosity, challenge, control, levels, feedback, and freedom to fail.
Leaderboard – a scoreboard showing the names and current scores of the leading competitors, especially in a golf tournament.
Badges – achievements, also sometimes known as trophies, that signify accomplishments
Experience Points – a feedback mechanic used to track progress, provide a way to unlock levels and/or achievements; can also indicate a player’s mastery over the virtual world
Guilds – a clan or community organized of a group of players
Quests – a mission or task a player or group of character must complete
